Operations
Position: Operations Manager
I'm the Operations Manager for Teva at Ridings Point, which is the company's new logistics centre and
head office in Castleford.
I joined the company recently and I'm really enjoying the role. I've got a business studies degree, but
I specialised in supply chain management in my final year.
My background has always been associated with distribution, managing third party logistics for numerous different
customers. I applied for this role at Teva because it's an in-house operation which means there's more chance to
broaden my horizons.
Before joining the company I had zero pharmaceutical knowledge, but I had experience of working in sites with
similar warehouse management systems.
What really appealed to me was the growth potential at Teva and the aspirations this company has going forward.
I was excited then and I’m still excited now because the company has grown in the time that I've been here,
so hopefully new opportunities will be presented to me.
At present I'm literally involved in every aspect of the business, from managing the warehouse and transport,
to having meetings with sales teams, finance and HR.
I also spend a lot of time with our customers because big efforts are being made to enhance the service and
relationship they experience from Teva.
On a typical day I get in at 07.30am and the first thing I do is walk around and check everything is OK,
particularly the warehouse management system. It's not easy, but I also make an effort to speak to everyone
I can so that I can understand them a little more and find out what makes them tick.
After that, every day is different. I'm involved in many different projects, so I have to attend lots of
meetings with colleagues and customers alike.
I've also just started a senior management development programme which is helping me to learn about other
parts of the business. At the end of the first section I had to give a presentation to the Board which I really
enjoyed, even though it took me out of my comfort zone.
I've worked with lots of big name companies and I've experienced many different cultures, but Teva is certainly
the best employer I've worked for.
They really do focus and care about the people that work for them and it's not just paying lip service.
Everybody's individual needs are discussed at a senior level and if that person requires any training or development
to improve they will get it, along with help and support.
